Latest Reviews of 1805 / Tonnerre
This intriguing concoction of edgy-looking notes (smoke! gunpowder! blood! brandy! seaspray???) smells a lot like smoked and charred sausages in reality. Here, I said that. I'm not a fan, but if it's your thing, you do you.
Outstanding brunt birch smell which you think should be acrid and although the shear power of the opening makes you think it will go that way a certain paradoxical fresh floral chimes in which I think is very clever and makes it seem playful and I enjoy smelling it but sooner or later olfactory fatigue will set in and its not a realistic proposition to wear anywhere serious or anywhere at all regularly.
I like it but would not buy it. Interestingly Phoenix beau have an aftershave splash called Spitfire which reminds me of this but theirs is eminently wearable and in Edt form would be pure genius. The aftershave lasts 5 minutes and the fragrance stick is very restrained. If PB came up with an Edt or EdP I would buy it in a heart beat. We need an unashamedly politically incorrect but appropriate masculine fragrance. We all have the same rights but we are all different. We are not all clones and Marxism has never worked.
Thumbs up for what it is!

Gunpowder blasts and brined ham, the battlefield evocation of 1805 Tonnerre comes swathed in cypriol smoke, but with punched out bits of lime brightness and aquatics. The smokiness of the perfume combined with gunpowder effects is a heavy cloak from under which the contrasting lighter notes must poke through as best they can. The overall impression is meaty, with a swelling cured tobacco accord in the midsection that folds into itself the woody base. Powerful, driven stuff, that seems to require wearers who can rise to its challenge.
Smells like a battlefield, or a crowded gun range filled with black powder, firearm enthusiasts, blasting away at metal targets. I've shot black powder guns / muzzleloaders - I remember this smell. This, is artsy. Not really suited for an everyday wearing. [Was it meant to be?] It's intense. Nearly cough-inducing. Smells like smoldering wood logs, too. I like it.
I don't really get any blood or brandy accords. I DO get lots of saltiness in the heart... Balsamic bits later, as well as hints of burned Cedar. A linear fragrance for the most part. Most would find this hard to pull off. I like its weirdness but then, I AM weird.

I have to agree that "smoke" note is build mainly on birch tar, and I have to say that he lime part of the top is disturbing me a bit. But give it 10-15min on skin and it will unveil its marvelous composition! I know it may be subjecive but I'm affiliedted with navy / marine / military industry and I have to admit it realy reminds me of sea battle, I can smell gunpowder, sea and bit of metalic note; even birch tar reminds me of the engine room smell! It's one of my favorite fragrances, despite it's overwhelming for others.
I had high hopes for this one. But I make it short. Reviews do not have to be long, always and anytime.
I wouldn't mind the smoke (that most likely comes solely from birch tar), but paired with an old-school window cleaner note that causes a dissonance that could hardly be any bigger, this is just unbearable. Like cleaning a window with a toxic window cleaner from the 80's while a forest burns down in your back.
If you are still asking for pros as the cons don't put you of:
Lasts long and projects well. Even the window cleaner note (I guess the lime + sea water are responsible) lasts and lasts, though you might think it's a top note.
What a big pass for me!
