Bourbon French – Alessandra

Bourbon French's notes for Alessandra are simply, oriental spices and woods. This is a very light scent, slightly sweet, with an effervescent “gin fizz” quality, very reminiscent of Lubin's 1955 creation of the same name. That scent combined bergamot, lemon, mandarin and juniper berry in its top notes, with iris, galbanum, rose and jasmine in the heart, and lily, benzoin, oak moss, musk and vetiver in the base. I believe it was the juniper berry note that gave it the “fizz” experience of sweet bubbles bursting under one's nose.

While the Lubin has long been out of production, with Alessandra, fans of that scent may now easily acquire more of the same experience.

There is a slight greenness in the well-blended heart, which could be the galbanum of the Lubin, and the base is solidly woody, but very faint and unobtrusive. The spices may be a mix of cinnamon, which would account for its sweetness, and cardamom, which would impart the dryness that develops as it moves into its heart.

My spouse found it to be a soft, powdery floral, a gentle, sweet combination of jasmine and citrus. He felt it more suitable for a young woman than for unisex use.

Overall, a very pleasing light scent, which would be equally at home being worn by a man or a woman, and for most every occasion. One of Bourbon French's best creations.
