Anubis opens with an over-done sweet note, rather fruity… even cloying. I'm ready to write this one off immediately, but a different kind of sweet moves in promptly – an earthy, slightly resinous sweet of sweet myrrh and balsam, but there's a green note that moves in from the background to join with the myrrh to form what ends up being the main accord for the top: a sweet resinous myrrh and herbal green. OK, now it's doing something interesting. Eventually a rather smoky note joins as the herbals dissipate a little. I like it very much and the fragrance seems to hold this accord on the skin for a very long time. With the drydown, the sweetness returns a little, but this time it's a rich, visceral smoky / sweet of amber and, I think, honey. I feel that the sillage produced is slightly less than average and it has excellent longevity. Quite a scent… I wonder what that blast of sweet was in the opening, but I applaud the way Anubis turned out to be an effective myrrh / herbal / amber fragrance: The combination is striking.
