The throughline of Sileno Cheloni's perfume creations for AquaFlor is careful attention to proportion. Many of these perfumes feature ostensibly simple or familiar structures, but Cheloni coordinates the elements in a way to find depth and novelty in them.

Beirout centers on a precisely rendered creamy rose that rests atop a base of spicy woods, patchouli, and vanilla. It's not an uncommon theme, but it's expressed with greater precision than in something like, say, Calligraphy Rose, which is on paper more complex, but in practice, a shallower experience. In a lesser perfume, the vanilla would overtake the base, but here the woods become more pronounced and dimensional as it evolves.

Beirout makes me think of a rose connection in an old wooden drawer that had at some past time also stored spices, and as you open the drawer the aromas of the sweetened rose, the remnants of old spices, and the aged wood hits you all at once.

There are so many rose perfumes in the world it's hard to argue for Beirout as a landmark option, but, for what it is, it's quite nice.
