Byblos in Black tries effectively to re-interpret the succesful Terre d'Hermes's accord of citrus, vetiver and pepper by leading the previous olfactory agreement towards a more properly resinous-boise, incensey and darkly smokey woodsy recipe. The outcome is softer, sweeter and finally more soapy-resinous (vaguely misty-vanillic) but basically less fresh, less subtle and refined than its predecessor. I still detect a sort of aqueous vetiver's background while the TDH's spicy dry earthiness is tamed and toned down by a misty smoother resinous accord. Anyway on its complex the In Black's aroma is pleasant, more than decently structured but not enough textured and original. Not bad.
