Latest Reviews of Cie
I can't believe this one doesn't have more reviews-- it was a favorite of mine in the 80's. A great big "pow" of oakmoss and vetiver with some citrus (bergamot?) and floral accents. Green, but not grassy. Sharp, in that drugstore fragrance way (said wistfully, not critically!) that didn't veer into Rive Gauche territory.
Sadly, the vintage samples I have tried are flat-- those citrus notes which lifted the composition have evaporated-- effectively changing the entire mood of the fragrance.
Alas, the knockoff vintage "tribute" that I ordered is far too quiet to be recognized as Cie. I'm retiring this one to the "long term perfume memory" portion of my brain with a nod to the quality and diversity of these 70's/80's drugstore gems. (How odd that despite the sheer number of new releases, there is so little diversity in scent!)
Candice Bergen was such a great choice for this distinctive scent-- gorgeous, classy, fun-loving and smart. No glitter, pompoms or pinky-pink-ness.
I'll not weep for the loss-- it was great while it lasted. Besides, the reformulated (yes, REFORMULATED!) Jontue reminds me quite a bit of the vintage Cie. While not an exact dupe, it fills the need for this type of oakmoss/floral (accent on chamomile) go-getter.
