Ambergris is certainly here, and as a huge fan of it, the opening here showcases that titillating, ineffable sensation. It's salty, animalic, somewhat fungal, floral, with facets of tobacco. These first few minutes are utterly brilliant. Soon, the facet tobacco grow more fecal, manure-like, but at first, fascinating and only stirring in the background. The sparkle and brine lasts for a while.

Then it shifts.

The fecal element grows a little too much for me to enjoy (imagine that!). This is where Musc Ambre Gris takes a turn for the worse. Sadly, the fascinating fungal facets take a back seat and the drawers are not merely dirty—they are soiled, but dried and crusted. I am sorry for such an uncouth description, but this stretch of the development is more than my skank-friendly nose can bear.

Over time, a bait and switch of Grisalva (ethyl analogue of Ambrox) washes over the ambergris poopiness. It is unrelentingly diffusive and dire. Womp womp. What a fall from grace, considering that showstopper of an opening. Also, Jeez Louise, this brand is spendy.

Simply the best ambergris scent I have ever smelled. This would be perfect for any occasion. Bonus: my lady loves it.
