Anglia Perfumery (2008)

Starts off with a distinctly camphoraceous accord, and then dries down to something of the order of Polo or Escencia. It has more pine than either of these, and has a good natural effect, a particularly green take on an eau de cologne. However, it disappears completely at around the five-hour mark. A more generous application might occasion a revisiting of my rating, but the scent is not so good that I can overlook the poor performance at this stage.

December 2016 - upgrading to a positive rating. A more generous spray has resulted in better, certainly adequate performance from this pleasant, GFT-style cologne.

I really like this scent. I wanted a forest, pine, spruce-based scent and Duncan is just that. It has a very clean soapy base note which is terrific. It's masculine and understated. I can't quite put my finger on what it reminds me of but it's something from my boyhood and it's a happy memory. Duncan very old-fashioned and that's perfect for me. I asked a platonic friend of mine what she thought and after smelling it she practically chased me around the room.

In the opening I can pick up bergamot and pine which is shortly joined by a cypress note. It does smell soapy and aromatic but nothing really distinctive.

All in all though this very green and pleasant.

Duncan is a soapy, citrusy fougere with pine and cypress notes. It is a good, not great, approximation of the old Crown Perfumery Buckingham. The structure and basic idea are the same (I would certainly recommend this to anyone for a dose of old fashioned Victorian soap) though the quality of materials and artistry are inferior to Crown--but Crown used some of the best and most expensive oils available. This is what soap used to smell like (most are aquatic or gourmand now, right?)--clean, brisk, and to the point. The pine adds depth and sharpness while the cypress adds a bit of dusk much like Creed's Cypres Musc. Duncan focuses more on lime and bergamot while Buckingham employed brilliant lemon, cedrat, and lemon melissa. One never knows how long an outfit like Anglia will be around, so it would be wise to sample and buy if you are so inclined.
