Latest Reviews of Ghaliyah Reflection
While I'm certainly no expert on oud or the historic phenomenon of "Ghaliyah"
I do know what I like and I do enjoy the whole spectrum of ouds. This one contains a "vintage" Hindi oud plus a Bangla oud and Rose Damascena and I suppose could be called an oud-rose. But there are a laundry list of other ingredients in here spanning the range from citrus (grapefruit, bergamot, lime, lemon), florals (rose, Damask Rose, jasmine. Osmanthus, tuberose), spices (saffron, "Indian Spices"), animalics (musk, "boosted black musk," hyrax, aged civet, black ambergris, brown ambergris, castoreum) resins (labdanum, frankincense, myrrh) and other assorted notes like oakmoss and "Onchya Shells" and "fossil Himalayan Amber."
The brand states "The technique of aging and curing of all material is the key. Later, maceration of the batch in alcohol for over a year."
So a lot goes into this both in terms of ingredients and time & effort.
The end result is an absolutely beautiful, smooth, complex, musky, oud rose.
The rougher edges of the Indian oud have been "sanded down" to a very safe, somewhat medicinal "Band-Aid" type of smell which I love. While I enjoy a skanky oud as much as anyone I also appreciate this more wearable, smooth and "sanitized" affair. It's very complex and is continually morphing and changing which keeps one's interest piqued.
It's a reasonably priced (for a real oud) $275/30ml and certainly a mere two or three sprays will last all day plus.
