This is an intriguing offering by Flanders because it is many things at once. I can't put my finger on what keeps me sniffing my wrist. Is it because I like it, or because it is strange and wonderful, or because I quite not like it but don't know why! For me it is a cologne first and foremost BUT with a twist. So it starts all zesty and fresh, but rapidly develops into a floral, or ok maybe herbal, composition that is not clear cut and I don't know if it settles at all into anything like rose as others have written. Nevertheless, after a couple of hours smelling my wrist does make me think of rose lukum! In all this progression I can say that I feel a reassuring and comforting light sweetness. I have felt very much the same while trying Clarins Eau des Jardins OR Eau Ensoleillante; forgive me but I don't remember which one exactly.
In conclusion I very much like the short-lived lemon opening of Hungarian Water and melissa is great and prolongs the zestry-ness of the opening, mint I don't think I get so much but the dry down is sweet and mellow but also a bit generic. This is daring for men so maybe women will find it easier; alas for younger women it may be too old-fashioned. Angela Flanders fragrances, if my instinct doesn't fool me, are rather traditional olfactory in a reassuring grandmotherly way. And I don't mean this in a derogative way. If the dry down of Hungarian Water wasn't so premature and so generic I would have given thumbs up.
