Prada (2004)
This is where the Fruchouli starts to emerge from Angel, while giving a nod to Femme de Rochas on the way.
Both the patchouli of Angel (and its red fruity nuance), and the peachy plum of Femme de Rochas can be found in Prada, but here they are highlighted and brought to the fore with an extra dose of red fruitiness.
This doesn’t make Prada a Fruchouli as such, even though it feels a bit like one.
Modern fruchouli’s tend to have pretty basic structures, but this is more complex than them because there’s other stuff in the background.
Stuff like the cocoa and powdery notes that appear in the mid section, and which don’t really match the rest of the profile – which is quite patchouli-sharp and tart-fruity in character...
Chanuary Prepper
As you can see by the picture of a lovely lady sniffing Bleu de Chanel Pine-Sol above, I am completely unprepared for Chanuary. That being the month when Basenotes fragrance maniacs wear either a lot of Chanel, or nothing but Chanel. On this terrible device, I have ZERO pictures of Chanel fragrances, zero Chanel ads, and zero images having anything to do with the house of Chanel. All my cool Chanel stuff - of which there is truckloads - is SOMEWHERE ELSE that I don't remember. And very likely not on a working device.
Worse still, I have no idea how many Chanel fragrances I have on hand.
Thus, this thread. I will begin cataloging all my Chanels, digging them out and scribbling them down here, so that I can divvy...
My Fragrance Sample Advent Calendar for 2023
If you ever had advent calendars as a kid, then you remember the intense desire to never get rid of them. You recall the urge to re-use the old ones, even whlle demanding new ones, with a greater level of surprise. And then, if you had kids of your own, then seeing the same thing from the parental point of view.
Somewhere along the way, during the empty nest stage, I saw and bought a Starbucks advent calendar, which you see pictured. It includes a cheap magnetic chalkboard and steel tins of small treats, all of which I've forgotten. But I did remember one thing - my plan to put fragrance samples in the little tins, and use is as a fragrance advent calendar.

None of them is exactly like the original, but every one of them is still surprisingly close, and - even more importantly - surprisingly good.
Most of all - surprisingly cheap.
The original Black Walnut was a bit of a lucky buy for me. At first, after I got it home, I was disappointed when I realized that it was so similar to a fragrance already in my (at the time) meager collection - the "red bottle"...

A grapefruit and white floral combo (reminiscent of cK One - from 1994 - the previous year) Esencia de Duende has a sharp smoothness that would keep you fresh on the hottest of summer afternoons.
But it's badly named.
This is not the essence of Duende - which Wikipedia tells me is a mysterious power - which everyone may sense and no philosopher explain; an animal reaction that makes you shiver, or weep with emotion at the sight of an intense spectacle, like that most theatrical of dances, flamenco.
For an experience like that, you would have to go home first, shower and change, and spray on something far more diabolical than this sweet divertimento, which would distract you from those depths of passion you only feel when you're fully...

I got talked into hosting a semi-last minute Super Bowl watch party for 20 or so people. After I got the snacks situated, the big question was what fragrance was most appropriate to wear? I did a search on these notes:
leather (for the ball)
grass (vetiver, for the field)
civet (for the Bengals)
musk (for the Rams)
for that combination, by collection popped up Kouros or Givenchy Gentleman, so I'm going with the more crowd friendly choice. I don't have much of a dog in the fight for the game, but I'm going to smell good eating the wings and nachos!
