Just a heads up, the forum will be offline for a few hours over the weekend while I upgrade to the latest version of the forum software.
I will be more specific with the time later on in the week :)
Due to human error (mine) registration has been broken for about ten days – It should be fixed now :)
So if you've been trying to join Basenotes recently, then you should now be able to! Sorry!
(back to my holiday now!)
In an attempt to add the option of hiding SOTD in forum posts, and moving the review count down to the bottom so it looks nicer, I've managed to remove them completely.
Sorry
I'm going on Holiday from Monday for 10 days, so I'm afraid all that's gonna have to wait til I get back!
Happy fragrancing!
(The pic is of food I would like to eat on holiday)
Okay, here's a visual list of all the new integrations, which should be coming very soon (ignore the slightly different theme, that's just me testing stuff)

Basenotes takes the integrity and reliability of our reviews very seriously, and it is one of my priorities to ensure that the reviews you read on our platform are genuine and trustworthy. After a thorough investigation, I have discovered a significant breach of our community standards – the vast majority of the last few years of reviews by a member were found to be plagiarised. These reviews were not only copied from other sources but were also often from fragrances unrelated to the perfumes they purported to review.
Such actions are unacceptable and compromise the trust and value we strive to maintain. As a result, I have taken immediate and decisive action to remove all the reviews of that member from our website.
I understand how...
If any of you have posted a review in the last few months, and have been waiting for it to appear on the site, then it should be there now! Sorry it took so long, sometimes I get distracted and forget to do it.
The Kermit, is what I see when I have finished approving reviews, to try and encourage me to do it more often:
Heads up. We had a few hours downtime this evening. A very similar issue to this one , but this time it was completely my fault. Sorry everyone. Normal service should resume now.
If you're interested in what happened - I made a stupid edit to a database query which caused the website to get in a stupid loop and creating massive temp files. I tried to fix the mess myself, but in the end I had to drag someone from my hosting company away from watching the Euro Semi-Finals to fix it! (sorry!)
The software we use for the forums have released an update to their latest version, which is Xenforo 2.3. I've been testing the beta versions on a development server, and seems to be working well. I'm going to try the final version and make sure there are no site-breaking issues, and then roll it out on site in the future.
The new version adds a few nice features – the most requested one is probably Dark Mode, but there is also support for Trending Content, Logging on with PassKey, Better Image optimisation and more....
Those interested in the boring details can learn more here:

There is no planned roadmap of when this will happen, it's more a case of when...
As I got the first beta out for SOTD yesterday, I thought I'd have a fun change, and made this:
It works, but it's in beta, so it’s buggy, but it's playable
The rules are basically similar to a certain other word game but with perfume themed words (perfumes, houses, notes)
Grey - letter is not in word
Magenta - letter is in word but not in the correct place
cyan - letter is in word and in correct place
Your guesses don't have to be perfume related, so you can use any words to narrow it down
Have fun!
Play Stinkle!
Something that has been on my to do list for a while is to provide the ability for members to download a backup of their wardrobe and SOTD data. I was recently reminded of it in this thread here by @dogtoe
You can now download your SOTD history and Wardrobe data on this page here. The format it downloads as is CSV which stands for Comma Separated Value – if you're not a tech-head, all you need to know it that Excel can read this.
Some caveats:
You are not able to import these back in to Basenotes - this is a one way thing. (so you can't download it, make some edits and push it back to the site)
Dates are currently stored as Unix Timestamps. This is basically a number which is "Seconds passed since 1st January 1970". Mainly as I...
