Triumph Of Bacchus by Argos

This is a tobacco that needs to be on everybody's radar. There are alot of tobacco frags and I've sampled just about all of them. This sits somewhere roughly between Red Tobacco and Herod but does it better than both. Tobacco Vanille *used* to be the benchmark, it no longer is after it's 2 or 3 reformulations. It's not even in the equasion anymore, it's a vanilla bomb and the tobacco is an afterthought. - I'm not inclined to seek out vintage bottles for the good version.

Back to Triumph of Bacchus, it is blended wonderfully. I believe there is a boozy peach note that sticks out just a bit in the mid, no one note dominates overall on my skin. It's a very well put together tobacco fragrance - of the sweet variety - but not overly sweet. Performance is very impressive, the same can not be said for Herod currently. This lasts 10+ on skin, days on clothes.

Triumph of Bacchus and Mystery Tobacco are my tobacco 1, 2 punch. Mystery Tobacco is a bit more tobacco forward and far less sweet, Triumph of Bacchus handles the sweet category. Two thumbs up

Pierre de Velay No.25 by Roja Dove

This is a member of 'the trio'. PdV 25, Madison & Midsummer Dream. All are in the same vein but there are suttle differences. I would suggest sampling the three and making a choice which you prefer.

Pierre de Velay 25 - of the three - leans more heavily into the various 'pine' aspects of the basenotes. The elemi and ginger are still very present giving it the powdery - not powdery resinous citrus note - it's very unique. But as this dries down it's less 'powdery' than Midsummer, I don't recall Madison enough to make a good comparison. Performance is well above average, lasts literal days on clothes.

Two thumbs up, one of my favorites and able to hold a spot in my much slimmed down wardrobe

Herrera Confidential : Saffron Lazuli by Carolina Herrera

Ungodly sweet that I couldn't tolerate past the 20 minute mark. Realistic rose is ok, jammy rose not ok - this has the latter. Did I mention the sweetness.... Scrubber

Ganymede by Marc-Antoine Barrois

I don't know why, it shouldn't, but some note combination here reminds me of the rhubarb note and overall composition of L'Art de la Guerre from Jovoy. Similar - no, but reminds me of it for some reason.

I was unsure about this the first few wearings, it's abstract in a sense and familiar in others. It doesn't veer far from the initial spray which I don't see as a bad thing. Longevity is nothing short of epic - seriously the longest lasting & most persistent fragrance I've ever used. We're talking very noticable through a shower and into the next day kind of epic. This is an extremely wearable fragrance. The mineral note is ever present, lurking in the background at times and moving forward a bit other times.

Nawab of Oudh by Ormonde Jayne

My second love from this house. Nawab of Oudh, if you know - you know. This is a silky smooth composition that I wear year round. Depending on the time of year it is, I will get different notes on top and mid, weird I know. In warmer weather the magnolia is very present transitioning into the mid and it's so nice. Cooler weather it's much less noticable but I get almost a juniper like note in the opening. Any way you slice it, I adore everything about this fragrance.

Ormonde Jayne is a house often slept on, y'all don't know what you're missing. If you know - you know

Raspberry scented ashtray. That's literally it. Nasty.

Interlude Man by Amouage

Simply put, the foulest most disgusting thing I've ever tried out of hundreds. Wipe yourself down in oregano oil from Amazon and call it a day. I give everything a chance but this was a furious scrubber in minutes. Can also be used as human repellant

Diadem by Thameen

This made it to my 'to buy' list in two wearings from a sample. It smells like Histoires de Parfums 1899 Hemingway and Chopard Oud Malaki had a baby. Identical to neither but similarities from both throughout the drydown. I enjoy both of the previous mentioned fragrances, the Oud Malaki part of the mid is much, much smoother here. Well blended and good longevity on my skin, 7-8 hours. I only wish it came in 100ml

As I mentioned in another Thameen review, buy it from Selfridges, don't pay US prices. You're welcome

Amber Room by Thameen

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews, this is a stunning amber - one of the few I actually like. Many amber's I've tried tend to be dry or dusty feeling, not this gem. It's extremely well blended and all the notes work in harmony. Once you get to the mid and base it just feels like a warm cozy amber surrounding you for hours. Amber Room isn't a projection monster but keeps you in a nice bubble as is the case with most extraits - for many hours. I would call this unisex leaning masculine imo. Ormonde Jayme Ambre Royale I would call unisex leaning femme for contrast.

If price is off-putting in the US, buy it from Selfridges or one of Harrod's 10% off weekends. You can get a 100ml for a touch more than the price of a 50ml in the US. You're welcome!

Two thumbs up if I could

Ormonde Man by Ormonde Jayne

Wonderful fragrance, I've been wearing it for many years.

For the Creed lovers, imagine Baie de Genievre and Royal Oud had a baby, you get Ormonde Man.

The Juniper is so nice in the opening, and it lasts for about 45-60 min on me and transitions to that black hemlock which is so smoothe. The (dry) cedar slowly creeps in and takes over for the rest of the drydown. Wonderful, wonderful scent.

I get about 8 hours, airy, etheral quality not assaulting your nose with every breath but make a movement and it reminds you it's still there.

Montabaco Intensivo by Ormonde Jayne

Ormonde Jayne is a house that often gets overlooked, why I don't know. OJ is my absolute sweet spot, many of their fragrances have an airy, etheral quality which I adore. I don't want to get punched in the face with my fragrance with every breath for hours on end, enter Ormonde Jayne

Montabaco Intensivo may be in my top three scents and I've owned/sampled easily hundreds. Signature worthy? check. Roll out of bed on a saturday morning to lounge all day? check. Office safe? Check. Special occasion? check. It is absolutely wearable 365 days a year and is a gorgeous departure from the heavy handed sweet tobacco's that smell like they all grew on the same tree.

This creation is largely a linear scent which is totally fine with me, I don't need memories evoked or to be taken on a journey, I just want to smell good. On my skin the notes largely work in unison and nothing dominates in particular, the 'fresh' tobacco is ever present - but tamed by other notes, with almost a minty quality, it's not medicinal by any stretch. I don't know how else to describe it. It's green without being herbacious, fresh is the only way I can describe it.

On my skin that eats the strongest for breakfast, it is noticable for a solid 10-12 hours. I can even discern it 16hrs later. Projects for a solid 2 hrs but is airy at the same time. I do not weigh the quality of a fragrance on compliments - I frankly don't care - but I will say this is a head turner. I've been stopped in my tracks and asked what I was wearing by more than one woman. 30+ or a confident 25yo.

I will say the Intensivo version is identical scent wise to the regular Montabaco, it just lasts longer. Many times when perfumers add strength, some notes disappear or shine more, not so with this. I used Montabaco for years, I just happened to get a great deal on the Intensivo.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up if I could

Apple Tabac by Pineward Perfumes

Big, very realistic apple. Sadly, equally as powerful is celery, celery and more celery. Maybe it's a skin chemistry thing but the celery was unrelenting for almost an hour and I had to scrub this one. Looks like another reviewer had the same issue.

Oltremare by Bois 1920

Tried this in a quest for more rhubarb. Very disappointed, while the rhubarb is there it is sweet and not very tart. And to echo NickZee, this is most certainly VERY feminine leaning unisex. Perhaps it's me and tea notes, I don't know - I find Silver Mountain Water very feminine leaning also.

I didn't give a negative despite being disappointed because it is very nice - on my girlfriend, not me. It has staying power for a summer frag which is impressive. If the rhubarb was more tart I think I could pull it off, it's just too fruity.
