Last month, London’s Les Senteurs perfumery re-opened the doors of its Elizabeth Street branch after months of redesigns and renovations.
The company say “More so than ever, the new look Elizabeth Street flagship will provide a space of pure indulgence for the senses, a place in which to be transported into the evocative world of scent and enjoy a relaxed browsing experience, or savour one of Les Senteurs renowned fragrance consultations and discover a signature perfume guided by honest, uncompromising and unbiased advice.”
The store was originally founded in 1984, when Betty and Michael Hawksley had the revolutionary idea to open a boutique so unique in its purpose and approach, little did they know that Les Senteurs would change the face of British Perfumery and become such an institution in the fragrance industry.
The store became the UK launch place of brands such as Creed, Annick Goutal and Diptyque; and in more recent years, Frederic Malle, Mona di Orio, Byredo, Tauer Parfums, and Parfumerie Generale. Today, the concept of the family owned store remains the same, to curate an offering of the very best lesser known fine fragrances and scented goods, combined with expert advice and exceptional service.
The company opened a second store in Marylebone in 2011, but this has since closed.
Les Senteurs say they are “unveiling exciting plans for the coming months. With a fresh new look, plus some wonderful activities and new brands in the pipeline, the future of Les Senteurs will continue to delight and inspire, creating magical fragrance menrories for years to come.
Les Senteurs can be found at 71 Elizabeth Street, London. The website is https://www.lessenteurs.com/
Elizabeth Street looks a bit 'girly' now
I didn't know that the Marylebone store had closed, but I'm not surprised. It didn't seem to attract much footfall (at least not during the times I visited).
There's more competition around now, too.
For a while, Bloom operated two stores but I understand that was more of a strategic move to negotiate with suppliers for certain lines.
I think they missed a trick with leaving out Bond and Histoire de Parfums altogether and just sort of dabbling with Amouage though
Perfume distribution is a weird one.
Many brands are bound by restrictive agreements with various stores so even if Les Senteurs wanted to carry lines X or Y, they might not be able to.
I agree it is annoying when stores only carry a limited selection of a line.
