Hi all,

So I recently purchased LV perfume Nouveau Monde I purchased it online from the official website. The reason I bought this perfume was it smells nice and the longevity!! In store I’d try it on and it would last all day on my skin and even longer on clothes.

I received the perfume but I was perplexed, the perfume lasts around 30 minutes!!!! So understandably I’m FUMING, I paid £250+ for a perfume I’ve wanted for a while, purely for its longevity, but I cannot smell it after 30 minutes.

Has anyone had the same experience with ordering online from LV? I’ve emailed them, this is their response:
We advise you to visit one of our stores to explain your disappointment regarding the longevity of the scent, they will take the details printed on the underside of the bottle and check with the producers.

I am Actually really pissed off imagine wanting a perfume for its longevity and when it arrives it lasts 30 minutes on you 😂 😢

I'm so sorry...
A couple of clients had me look into their scents. I sprayed on cards mostly, and they lasted well.
But I've not worn them, personally.

Make sure it's not just you getting noseblind to the scent! When your brain keeps getting the same signal over and over it can start to ignore that signal, so it might seem like the scent is gone but actually it might still be going strong (your brain just tapped out).

I literally sprayed on cards too and the scent lasted WEEKS on the cards which is why I purchased it… I’ve actually called the LV customer line and they’re looking into it

It’s deffo not me getting nose blind I only wear it when I’m going OUT out and honestly I’m extremely disappointed I had heard about LV staff selling dupes I’ll be fuming if they’ve watered my perfume down this is not what made me fall in love with the scent at all

Often new bottles take time to smell and perform as intended. I ordered a bottle of MFK Masculin Plureil that had no smell whatsoever for a month or so and many others that vastly improved over time. You can try spraying a few mL into a ~5mL sample spray bottle if you have one, that smaller quantity will get better way faster than the full bottle.

Could also be a manufacturing issue though, but from my experience it just takes time and maybe exposure to oxygen.

I keep noticing that store testers last longer than the same fragrance bough brand new. The reason I guess is a maceration. Testers stay open for a relatively long time (from weeks to months), and that improves their performance enough. Now, here is the fact that proves my theory. I have a mid size collection (about 60 frags), and I've stopped buying new ones as soon as I started getting into the blending. Also, I've stopped using any of them simply because it would distract my ability to evaluate my blends. literally have not touched any of my perfumes for several months. So, believe it or not but when I get back to some of them occasionally I clearly see how they become better in terms of longevity. (Another explanation to this could be that my nose has improved since I got into perfumery. It is true because I'm barely able to exist in public due to the strength of the musks that I smell around me :)

I make my own too but honestly LV perfumes in store last hours if not days on clothes. This one I got lasts barely half an hour. I have another similar perfume BDK Oud Abramad which does the same thing, maybe I’ll try without the lid don’t know how it’ll make difference but we shall see

This thought is not specifically about LV fragrances, which I have not personally worn, but I have felt from time ro time that some perfume testers and stock when first launched are quite potent but when replenishing the scent from subsequent shipments they can seem to have been watered down in intensity. It made me wonder if some perfumes are launched under the philosophy that you only get one chance to make a first impression.

It could be noseblindness, as I find LV's fragrances (even the weaker ones) are quite durable even if/when they become imperceptible to the wearer. In which case, you might be paying so other people get all the pleasure of smelling your fragrance.

Yes, I suspect this is true as well. There might be other reasons/causes but I've experienced the difference in scent and potency more than enough times, especially (oddly) when comparing bottle to tiny ~1ml atomiser, that I'm sure there's something to this.

This, most likely.
