Purchased Jazz Royale as part of a sample pack. When I sniffed the perfume and put it on my skin I smell one of my favorite things....chocolate! No where is it noted that chocolate is one of the notes. It is a dense, heavy fragrance. Thinking fall or winter for this one. I would agree that this is masculine but I think that women could use it as well.

JAZZ ROYALE (Bourbon French)

Considering the quartet of base notes (Oak Moss, Cedar, Sandalwood, Vetiver) that comprise Jazz Royale, I was expecting something dark and perhaps a bit harsh. The reality is quite different.

This is a very warm, round blend of notes that is quite masculine, but gentle and sophisticated. I am reminded of the bases of the classic chypres of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, where these four notes are combined to provide a slightly sweet, but ever so solid support to great floral and resin combinations. My nose detects a bit of rose and jasmine in the mix, which would provide that slightly sweet floral uplift I am experiencing.

Jazz Royale is quite a lovely find, perfect for the middle-aged gentleman on your gift list. It is part of a quartet of fragrances known as the Jazz Ensemble, formerly of Lagniappe Oaks Perfumery, and now part of the Bourbon French umbrella.

Recommended for lovers of warm, woody masculine scents.
