Just received my bottle of this frag.
Wow..and interesting comes to mind.
This is an unusual scent...but in the best possible way!

Scent: definitely sea salt and amber with a tinge of sweetness. Wore this on a warm, humid spring day and the scent grew. Powdery and salty sweet. Complimented four times on a walk through a grocery store and all I had on were workout clothes.

Sillage: on clean moisturized skin this is at least 4-5 hours. On clothes, all day. Projects out about a good 6 feet (that's how far away people were that complimented me)

Lasts all day though after 5 hours it settles into a nice skin scent.

This surprisingly is a year round scent and because of the composition you don't need more than 2 sprays but even if you doused yourself with this one, it isn't loud.

Gorgeous presentation. The bottle is very stately and regal.

I'm all about scent layering too so if you want to lean heavier into acquatic territory Jo Malone Wood sage and sea salt takes it there. Joined with creed SMW this becomes a more floral acquatic.

As far as price goes- that's up to you. I haven't smelled anything too similar so if you're enjoying a day out and want to smell fresh and unique, this is a great scent. Take it from some one with dozens of scents, this one will make your top ten!

As always, I would love feedback from others. Let me what your spouses or signifi ant others had to say about this one. Afterall, we want to smell good for ourselves but also for the one we love (or we want to love us..lol)

Overall:9

For me, 40 Knots is one of the most identity-changing fragrances I've tried. It goes from somewhat of breezy, barely-there aquatic in the opening, quickly fading to an almost medicinal, rosey floral not long after. It finally settles into a smooth, seductive, honeyed amber. It actually has me thinking of Ambre Nuit.

Projection is good without being heavy and this lasts 8-9 hours on my skin.

40 Knots opens with a fresh, slightly salty oceanic accord with underlying subtle supporting woody-amber before moving to its heart. As the composition enters its early heart it remains slightly salty oceanic, with a fresh, airy and slightly sharp green accord emerging to meld with the synthetic woody-amber accord that begins as subtle support, then groww as time passes until into the star. During the late dry-down the composition turns slightly powdery, as the woody-amber accord takes the fore as sole star, shedding its green, slightly salty oceanic supporting cast through the finish. Projection is good and longevity very good at over 10 hours on skin.

40 Knots starts off pretty nice smelling, if nothing too groundbreaking with its salty oceanic accord, staying pleasant through its early heart as the additional green accord while a bit synthetic is not so in a bad way, melding quite well with it. Sadly, the composition takes a major turn for the worse as it introduces a dreaded synthethic (in a bad way) woody-amber accord into the mix that has cashmeran written all over it. As time passes the cashmeran gobbles up everything else and spoils what started as at least a mild winner. To its credit, 40 Knots never takes the cashmeran to sickening levels, keeping the unwelcome stuff well in-check throughout, but even so it is just a bit too much for this writer. The base is *all* cashmeran, all the time. The bottom line is the $195 per 50ml bottle 40 Knots starts off mildly interesting and certainly pleasant, only to gradually sink into its cashmeran laden depths, earning an "above average" 2.5 to 3 stars out of 5 rating but an avoid recommendation as too much of its development is wasted in mediocrity to hold one's attention long.

I will keep it simple. It smells like a million bucks. Yacht type of a scent.

Actually, this smells like Dior Ambre Nuit on steroids.

Too sweet and floral for me to be an aquatic, in fact I found it performs better in cold weather than in hot days.
Performance/price ratio too low: sillage aprox half arm. After 2 hours is barely distinguished at skin level.
Bottle and box are pieces of art...maybe I would buy a full bottle just for those. I will search sea elsewhere.

yeah, i suppose this could be an aquatic , but it's one of the most unusual i've run across...i close my eyes and picture cruising on the open seas...walking barefoot on the beach with the breeze blowing the scent of flowers and greenery around...i get spicy wood with a touch of what seems like a boozy caramel...has a little of that metallic/ozony vibe...a little musky too...would easily fit in with Erolfa/Himalaya/SMW...good all-around fragrance for spring and summer...
