Bourjois – La Rose Ponpon (1909)

Death by Roses! What better way to die?

This luxurious and almost decadent blend of four types of rose (Marechal Niel, Tea, Bulgarian Red, and Sweet Briar), rounded out with a bit of honey, is tantamount to the rose lover's holy grail.

This comes at one in wafts of layers, from light and ephemeral to dark, deep and rich. The Sweet Briar rose and the Marechal Niel are two types I have not experienced before, but can't really pick out as the blending is so well done.

There seems to be reference to the Madame Hardy rose, a damask variety, that I have cultivated in my garden. This adds a powdery black pepper note, and is a gentle, sweet and soft reference.

This is a perfume for the mature woman. It is so rich that a tiny dab will go a long way. It is definitely not unisex in my estimation.

More to enjoy as a guilty pleasure on wrist or neck than to wear out and about. Long disappeared but still available on the internet from sellers of vintage perfumes.

A necessity experience for the rose lover!
