Moss Cologne is one of the few Bortnikoffs I have truly enjoyed from first application. The opening is a bit of semi-sweet citrus, followed by a heart of not too sweet florals such as rose and possibly tuberose that don't make the composition overtly feminine as they do in many other Bortnikoffs. Then, very quickly, the stunning moss, ambergris, and sandalwood comes to the fore. There isn't much development beyond that point, but the moss lingers for several hours and reminds of a vintage chypre -- namely Coty Chypre and others (though Coty Chypre has -- at least the 1980s version I smelled -- had a bracing rose/herbal component).

Top quality. Nothing offensive or ground-breaking, just nice.

A nice, natural oakmoss note that persists, which I quite like. It transitions to a more ambery base, per a traditional chypre structure. But overall a little softer than I would prefer, and a bit too "safe." I wish there was a little more going on to liven things up, or a more interesting twist. I owned it for a while but seldom reached for it over other chypre options.
