I finally got to try! Saks in NYC has it so it must be officially releasing in the U.S. soon.

It's nice! "Pretty" is the best way I can describe it. It smells familiar and very Chanel but it is well done. It's got kind of a cosmetic/lotiony smell to me, but the musky dry down creates a very lovely cloud which lasts forever. It's very strong and smells high quality despite the cosmetic smell associations, it doesn't smell cheap.

Not quite musky like 1957 which is a lot sharper and brighter, Comete is much softer and warmer. If i was to compare it to something else from Chanel it would be Paris-Venice or Beige.

I do get the "cherry blossom" in the intro but it's very discreet and not sweet.

Overall not a very exciting release but it is very well done and I like it.

I tried it last week in store. It is quite beautiful and yes, pretty. It opens with a subtle cherry blossom, lot's of powdery iris and heliotrope. It feels warm and comforting, not overly sweet. The problem I had with it was the musks. At first they really work to ground the composition, but as time went on they started bothering me. For some reason they seemed to become a bit sharp and metallic? Not something I have encountered very often but I really didn't enjoy the later stage of the fragrance because of it. The next day I smelled the tester strip I took home and the same thing happened.

The SA sprayed Comete on me, I did get the cherry blossom, but it wasn't the yucky L'Occitane version which I hate. The heliotrope came through pretty quickly. Two and half hours later the musk I am not really getting, just warm soft heliotrope and cherry blossom. I was given samples to take home and try, but so far I can see me buying this.

Okay going to add it is actually iris I am getting not the cherry blossom note.

Ps: I don't know if it was just a display presentation item, but there was a GORGEOUS Comete box in the Chanel stand; the standard white cardboard Les Exclusifs box with a comete necklace embossed on it, wrapping around all sides of the box. It was fantastic and utterly collectable, and I am not a sucker for packaging normally.

Everyone's initial responses seem generally positive. It will be on our shores soon, evidently. When my SA mentioned it was a cherry blossom scent I was skeptical, but she also said if I liked Gardenia and Beige (which I do) I'd like this one. So I am curious.....

Edited to add: my SA contacted me today--it is now available here too

Now, I have read that before. But I don't like Gardenia or Beige, but I love Comete.

Comete has landed in Boston, complete with a whole Les Exclusifs popup at the local Saks promoting it, and the very pretty embossed box that was mentioned earlier on display as well. As for the actual fragrance, it's a powdery duet between orange blossom and iris root not dissimilar to Parfums de Nicolai's Iris Medicis Intense, though of course the specifics like the carrot seed and galbanum top notes in Iris Medicis are different from more traditional aldehydic floral opening of Comete. Very nice stuff, but I don't know if it's unique and the whole cherry blossom shtick is definitely just marketing.

I tried Comete yesterday, and I thought it was lovely. Hazy heliotrope and powdery iris, almost Guerlain-esque, but with your expected Chanel elegance. On paper, though, the cherry blossom notes really came through, to the point where I would have disliked it had I only smelt it on the testing strip.

I would happily buy it if I had unlimited funds, but I have others on my wishlist right now, like No. 18, 1957 and Rue Cambon, as well as more backups of Cuir de Russie parfum. I don't particularly like the florals in the Exclusifs range, but I like Comete.

They had a special event at the Chanel boutique on Thursday and I had a ball and bought Comète there, the 75 ml for starters. Wore it home and after a brief interlude wearing Beige for the Friday sync, am wearing Comète again, and loving it.

This is a beautifully constructed perfume. Yes, one notices various notes at various times but they come together in a unified whole that is an entity unto itself. I have to say Comète has exceeded my expectations and quickly shot to a place among my favourites.

My full bottle arrived from John Lewis on Thursday, I got 15% off, so just jumped at it.

About the embossed box, I never notice it when in at the counter in House of Fraser and my bottle came in the normal white box 75 mls.
