Our resident Sycomore expert is @CookBot. You should ask her about this. The difference could be due to reformulation, but i’ve also had this same thing happen with several bottles of other fragrances that weren’t reformuated, according to ingredients lists.

I'm hardly the most dependable "expert", since I haven't tried any that was made after 2016 (except one sample of the EDP), and I'm not the least bit knowledgable about spotting counterfeits, having only owned/seen bottles that came direct from Chanel.

But I do agree in principle that juice that's been around for over ten years is usually going to smell stronger than new stuff. True of most things, not just Sycomore.

I appreciate the feedback, waiting for Toxicon to comment on the apparent text behind the label of mine.

The one thing that threw me a bit off is that my baseline, the remnants of a Sycamore decant from 10 years ago, smelled a bit more intense than what I received. Thoughts?

Sycomore EDP came out in 2016, so the “decant from 10 years ago” must have been the discontinued EDT. That is quite different from the EDP — much smokier and less creamy.

As further proof loyalty programs are evil, I had a bunch of fragbuy points set to expire next week, so I did what I had to and ordered a small pile of fun things for not much money.
  • Mugler Cologne Fly Away - one of the ill-fated Mugler Cologne flankers, this one sounds ridiculous. Just two listed notes: grapefruit & cannabis.
  • Bogart Signature - been angling to try this for ages, and it was briefly completely unavailable, so I’ve been casually watching for it ever since. Thanks to @Mr. Spritz for the tip on availability.
  • Rochas Femme - had to finally try this one too as I love cumin, have a growing appreciation for classic chypres, and I’ve been increasingly drawn to fruity scents lately. I’ve convinced myself this will smell like a mix of Eau d’Hermes, Aziyade, and Feminite du Bois, but we shall see!
  • Histories de Parfums 1899 - excited to finally expand my HDP collection with a couple more travel sprays and one full bottle. This was one of the first houses for which I picked up a full discovery set, and I’ve been sniffing at them sporadically for years now. I’ve always enjoyed 1899 and will be glad to have a travel spray, even if this is just an upscale take on Spicebomb. Beautiful cardamom note.
  • Histories de Parfums 1725 - gorgeous lavender-anise fougere with a sweet vanilla pastry base. My mom has had a full bottle for ages, and I’ll finally have my own travel spray.
  • Histories de Parfums Encens Roi - semi-reckless blind buy of a 60ml bottle, but this sounds like something I’ll wear a lot as I’m very much on a frankincense kick. sounds like this is a dry, woody, lightly gourmand take on incense in the HdP style.

Pour Homme 2024 and Pour Homme Blue Label 2024 by Givenchy 100ml EDP

View attachment 490554
The original (red) Givenchy Pour Homme was my father's signature scent in the early 2000's and I remember it being so suave. I got a sample a couple years back and was shocked by how dated and horrible it smelled! 😝 I wonder if that was a consequence of reformulations or just changing tastes...
