This is rock solid very nice pleasant sort of modern take on a basic fougere. Though it's now almost 30 years old, it still has a sort of contemporary feel to it, which is quite a feat.

I wouldn't call it soapy per se, but as someone else referenced it is a bit like a luxury soap in a pricey hotel.

It's perfect office wear, lasts pretty well and doesn't project so much you're a walking air freshener. It wouldn't put off a date, but it's pretty straight forward "safe" conservative stuff.

As I recall, it was met with some apathy back in '90s when launched, but it has def built a strong following through the years which is a real tribute to Chanel.

One of the most perfumes that puts me in a good mood, especially after shaving the beard, showering with hot water, and wearing clean summer cotton clothes. It feels very good. The fragrance for me is not linked to a specific time or weather. I consider it a quick and effective treatment to change my psychological state for the better.

Platinum Egoiste EDT (sample) -

The men’s line of the house of Chanel and I have not had a good run over the years. Today, I am giving them yet another shot at pleasing my vulgar nose.

Platinum Egoiste is very good juice. To me, it smells like an expertly milled bar of soap that I would find at a hotel that I can’t afford to stay at.

Lavender, rosemary, geranium and cedar are all here and very well blended. I love maximum versatility in my collection and this one definitely fits the bill.

Chanel and I may have found some common ground after all, frag on gents!

First of all, I really don't understand who compares Egoiste Platinum to Egoiste, they are two totally different perfumes that have only (partially) the name in common; in fact the Platinum was launched a few years after the first Egoiste with the aim of recovering the sales of the Egoiste brand which did not go as planned, so the comparison is really meaningless. Having said that, let's talk about the original version, with the writing "Egoiste Platinum" It's a rather intense perfume as soon as you spray it, sharp and very herbaceous and cold, almost metallic to be precise; precisely this cold and metallic character remains almost for the entire duration on the skin. But Egoiste Platinum is also very aromatic and puts much emphasis on the bitter notes rather than the floral ones. From the heart to complete drying, the woody notes emerge which from here will tend to dominate the aromatic green ones. It has a good projection for the first hour, a discreet wake and a more than good duration, in any case it is an excellent perfume for every day, very elegant and discreet, never invasive and that you will hardly dislike Definitely suitable for the summer season, I have to but admit that it performs very well even in the colder months. In my opinion, it's a men's perfume, adult and maybe well dressed. It conveys a nice feeling of freshness and cleanliness without being an aldehyde. Among the recent releases, there is Le Barbier de Tanger by MDCI which recalls him in the opening. I personally like it very much, to the point that I stocked up on the very first version with the inscription "Egoiste Platinum" which remained on the market from its release in 1993 until 1998. And it was precisely in 1998 that the perfume was renamed Platinum Egoiste, the formula was also modified and the result (they say) was a lighter and less persistent product. In 2014 there seems to have been another heavy reformulation which however (from what I've read) has fortunately improved the previous version.

since 1998 it was reformulated and renamed from Egoiste Platinum to Platinum Egoiste. Then another serious reformulation took place around Semptember 2010. The new juice since then was a lot milder, less herbaceous and less potent. It didn't last as long as the earlier releases.

Another reformulation, this time suddenly the one which made Platinum Egoiste smell like releases from 2010 and earlier ones, took place around beggining of 2014. The ones from 2014 are again potent and last long (at least on my skin). The new releases have the new shape of the bottle.

BLUF: An ultimate safe, ultra classy office go-to.

Platinum Egoiste is a less expensive but still classy way to achieve the vibe of Creed's Himalaya. They both remind me of the same clean, metallic, musk. Not sweet, not blue, but very clean. If you work in a setting where people or policies dampen the ability to wear fragrance this is something that could slip under the radar. I wear this to work often. It's not a sillage beast and it's tameness doesn't announce it's own projection. These qualities make PE very versatile and wearable all seasons, temperatures, and settings. It's price and class would discourage gym use I would think, but hey to each their own. Thumbs Up!

100 wear follow up: Smooth, clean, soft, classy. I can't think of a better office option, which is where I utilize it weekly. To add more context I have obtained more Himalaya and am now thinking that I will restock Platinum Egoiste and find it smoother and more daily office wear worthy than Himalaya. This is my absolute recommendation for the safest office/daily wear fragrance with class that almost anyone wanting to smell more sophisticated, classy, and elegant without offense would find a winner.
