SANDLEWOOD (Bourbon French)

I must admit I was spoiled upon my first exposure to sandalwood in the guise of the famous Bangalore variety used in Caswell Massey's Tricorn, probably the best sandalwood based scent ever made. Since it became illegal towards the end of the last century to harvest the Bangalore, the slightly inferior Mysore variety has become the go-to source for this highly prized perfume base source.

Bourbon French's Sandlewood is obviously not spelled as the scent itself, theirs being a description of wood used in making the sandle foot covering, so could really be describing any type of wood used for that art. This is what my nose is telling me, that I am not smelling sandalwood itself, but a pleasant, slightly sweet wood scent with a hint of quinine.

As such, and as a soliflore cologne, parfum and edt available for both men and women, it is inoffensive, soft, powdery, slightly sweet and a bit bland to my taste. A safe scent to give someone who is not really into scents, but wants to splash on something, so as to fit in with his or her crowd.
