Bourbon French – VIOLET

The Bourbon French soliflore Violet is true to its name: a pure, medium strength, but true scent of violet and violet leaf. Soft, warm, dry, reassuring and enveloping, it is a real treasure, right up there with the classic violet vintages, such as Borsari, Floris, Bourjois and Berdoues. Lacking sweetness, this seems better suited to a man than a woman.

There is nothing much one can say about soliflores: either they are true or they are not. In recent decades, distillation of the violet flower has been replaced by aroma-chemicals purporting to do a decent facsimile. Trumper's Ajaccio Violets, a winter signature scent for me for years, switched to the chemical version a few years back and lost a loyal customer.

I am happy to say that Bourbon French smells like the real thing and as a result, Violet will once again be back in my winter wardrobe.
