Riders is the newest fragrance to join Sarah Baker’s flagship collection. Previously the scent was available as Bascule, launching in 2020. The scent is described as, “Horses, hay and leather. Fresh green notes and woods whizz by. Hooves churn; earthy tones and noblesse oblige. Then, at rest on a bed of wild lilies with the reward of ripe fruit. A torrid tumble in the stables.”
Sarah Baker says: “I’m delighted that we’re releasing Riders within our flagship collection. Ashley (Eden Kessler) was the first nose the house ever worked with and she has created stunning juices for us. Riders is very special. Its story started with being inspired by a showjumping European royal. It’s taken on a life of its own since then. Just one of the wonderful notes that create its sense of regal, indulgent luxury with a sporty vibe is a very special leather accord created by Ashley based on the smell of the interior of a vintage Bentley.”
We reached out to Sarah to see if there had been any reformulation of the scent, and she confirms it is the same: “It is exactly the same juice, nothing different. We loved the perfume but the name needed an upgrade because the word Bascule was confusing. We’re so happy to bring this glorious juice into our flagship collection with its naughty script story that we wrote, inspired by the perfume.”
If you’ve ever purchased a fragrance from Sarah Baker, you’ll know that in each box is a snippet of a script inspired by the perfume housed next to it.
The Peach’s Revenge script was created specifically for the fragrance in 2024, the 12th script created by Sarah Baker Studios. Each script is included in the presentation box of the fragrance for which it was written. It is the first script to be presented as a rehearsed reading and is premiered at Jovoy Mayfair.
Peach’s Revenge is inspired by Renaissance revenge dramas, reimagined in miniature with a contemporary setting and a nod to TV drama. As with many of the surviving original plays, the romance and Machiavellian mindset of Italy are the pull for this darkly comic tale that plays out in a sundrenched peach orchard in Calabria.
Last week in London’s Jovoy store, Sarah arranged a live reading of that script. The reading featured especially created music and sound by Adam Lieber and was performed for the first time at the event by a cast of four professional actors:
Dylan Corbett-Bader is a British screen and stage actor, perhaps best known for his recent screen roles in A Haunting in Venice, The Tattooist of Auschwitz and We Were the Lucky Ones. His stage credits, among numerous others, include Common: A Trilogy at the National Theatre Studio and King Lear, directed by Kenneth Branagh. He also worked with Sarah Baker on a previous scented script reading Silent Killer: New Deadly Scent by Impirio Rosso performed at the Institute for Art and Olfaction Experimental Scent Summit V.2.
German-American Katarina Fuller is a recent graduate of East 15 Acting School. Her theatre acting credits include Choosing Children, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Antipodes. As an associate director, she has worked on Leaves of Glass and Miss Julie.
Joseph Kloska is a British stage, TV, voice and film actor. His screen credits include Treason, The Crown, Peterloo and The Riot Club. On stage, among numerous roles, he performed in a number of productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company and more recently in a touring production of Richard III. He (and Dylan Corbett-Bader) will appear in a production of King Lear in NYC for the 2024 fall/winter season.
Long based in the UK, American multi-talent Katie Puckrik is widely known for her work as a presenter on ratings-grabbing UK pop and lifestyle TV programmes capturing the zeitgeist. Her other credits as a performer are equally impressive, from dancing with Michael Clark’s avant-garde company to acting in TV sitcom; writing for The Guardian or frequent appearances as a BBC radio presenter and reporter. Furthermore, Katie was one of the pioneers of online fragrance reviewing with her hugely successful Katie Puckrik Smells YouTube channel that effectively defined the genre.

Peach’s Revenge, which Sarah admitted the name of which may have been inspired by her nine-year old’s love of Mario, was launched earlier this year and was created by nose, Chris Maurice. Notes include peach, guava, nectarine, amaretto, orris, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, bark, amber, vanilla, caramel, and musks.
